Miramar Wholesale Nurseries (MWN) announced two personnel
changes in April. Kelley Smagacz was promoted to purchasing
manager and Debbie Binczewski was named controller.
Kelley joined the staff in October as an administrative
assistant, but her education and skills quickly led
her to a management position. Kelley holds a BS in horticulture
from Michigan State University, and her knowledge of
plants is backed by excellent administrative and computer
skills.
As purchasing manager, Kelley is responsible for procuring
all green and dry goods, such as bedding color, production
plants, soils and pots. Her responsibilities also include
maintaining the MWN Web site, particularly the inventory
and ordering sections. Kelley will ensure all inventory
is up-to-date, and will facilitate all orders placed
through the Web site at miramarnurseries.com.
Debbie Binczewski hails from Las Vegas where she worked
as the area accounting manager to Coach USA. She holds
a BS in accounting from San Diego State University,
and earned her MBA at the University of Phoenix. Debbie
said she was drawn to MWN because it is a ServiceMaster
company, and she is familiar with the organization’s
exceptional record of good corporate culture.
As controller, Debbie will work with the MWN management
team to find ways to better service customers and vendors.
She will automate reports, work with internal controls
and internal reports to better run the nursery, and
assist with the Web site.

Congratulations to Donna Johnson, Commercial Landscape
Center Manager at the San Juan Capistrano location.
Donna was recognized with a nomination for a Women in
Business Award in the Orange County Business Journal
April 23.
 Donna
is a “working” manager, leading a team of
associates on 30 acres of commercial landscape center
area. She doesn’t operate from behind a desk, but
directs by example in the field. She knows her plant
materials, and is respected for her diligence.
The landscaping and landscape construction industries
are historically dominated by men. It’s hard, dirty
work to manage a commercial landscape center. Yet Donna
has succeeded. She has earned the respect of her clients,
peers and workforce through her knowledge, hands-on
involvement, hard work, and by setting an example for
her team.
