Miramar Wholesale Nurseries receives…

In 1999 MWN was a finalist for the prestigious “Best Companies to Work For in San Diego” award from the San Diego Business Journal (SDBJ). Also in 1999 MWN placed first for a Special Services Award within TruGreen LandCare (MWNÕs parent company) and, along with its regional associates, won TruGreen’s Region Quality Award for its emphasis on quality products, services, and customer satisfaction. In 1997, Suzie Wiest, branch manager and another founding member of MWN, received the “Women Who Mean Business Award” for Agriculture from the SDBJ. The award recognized Suzie as a role model for women in business. An article in the SDBJ concerning the award states that in spite of the demands of business, she supported a community beautification effort “aimed toward installing a sense of community pride and accomplishment in young children.”

Aside from these awards, MWN has been featured in the news media for a variety of community activities, including sponsoring an English as a Second Language (ESL) program in conjunction with a horticulture seminar series. The series allows Spanish-speaking horticulturists to further their knowledge of the nursery industry and the English language. Not only are MWN employees encouraged to attend, but also the series is open to the public and held on site at the nurseries’ San Diego facility.
