MIRAMAR WHOLESALE NURSERIES AND
LANDTRENDS ACQUIRED BY LANDCARE, USA
San Diego, CA – Miramar Wholesale Nurseries and Landtrends, two San Diego-area nursery and landscaping companies, have been acquired by Landcare, USA. Landcare, USA, based in Houston, TX, operates as a subsidiary of Service Master.
Miramar and Landtrends will now operate as branch operations of Landcare, USA. As the largest operation of its kind in San Diego and the only nursery/landscape combination under the LandCare umbrella, Miramar Wholesale Nurseries and Landtrends represented a unique opportunity in the San Diego market. The entrance of a nationally-based company to the San Diego nursery and landscape industry marks a substantial opportunity for growth in the local market.
Tom Ewing and Jon Ewing, presidents of Miramar Wholesale Nurseries and Landtrends respectively, will remain in their current positions and handle the local operations. They expect that the day to day operations will remain unchanged for the most part. Their current location off the 805 at Governor Drive will serve as headquarters for the company’s nursery and landscape services and their customers can expect to receive the same commitment to quality products and services for which Miramar and Landtrends have become known.
However, the impact of this acquisition on the local landscaping and nursery industries is substantial. As part of the TruGreen-ChemLawn team, Miramar Wholesale Nurseries will have access to resources required to expand inventories for the local market, as well as to further develop production to enhance orders in additional regions, according to Miramar president Tom Ewing. The Miramar facility has the potential to double in size from the current 150 acres to over 300 acres of production.
Jon Ewing, president of Landtrends, feels Landtrends will experience similar benefits. Landtrends can now offer landscaping services on a regional basis. Property management firms, REITS and corporate properties will now have the option to secure multi-regional property contracts.
Miramar Wholesale Nurseries is San Diego's leading supplier of landscape plant materials and supplies. The nursery continually is custom-growing shrubs, trees, seasonal color, and groundcovers for future projects in and around the San Diego area. Most of San Diego's commercial properties, institutions, property managers, and commercial landscapers are clients of Miramar Wholesale Nurseries. In addition, Miramar's fully stocked, six-acre commercial landscape center serves the immediate needs of its San Diego customers.
